I deauthorised all computers and reauthorised the MBP, ensured AppleIDs on both MBP & iPhn are the same and signed-in but no change. I went to Finder/Go/Option-Key/Library/App Support/MobileSync/Backups and sourced all folders whose names matched the UDID of my iPhn 12, iPhn 7 and iPhn 5s (as each migrated to the other) and deleted all, restarted but no change. On the MBP, I deleted all other user accounts, restarted, no change. I confirmed that for iCloud syncing, Calendars & Contacts are switched off in MBP’s Sys Prefs/Internet Accs/iCloud and in iPhn’s Settings/AppleID/iCloud. Finder never remembers the iPhn as being synced to the current user account, always showing the message “…synced with another…” Fortunately, I did an export of data on the MBP before merging so was able to delete all, import and use Finder to ‘replace’ data on the iPhn at next sync. I misinterpreted ‘merge’ for ‘sync’ and assumed Finder would compare data and replace the oldest with the newest on either device but merge meant bring the two sets together, it duplicated all Contacts and Calendar Events. Like Francescoo, connecting the iPhn to MBP via USB returns the message “Information is synchronised with another user account, do you want to sync with this user account?” with option to Merge or Replace info. When I upgraded to 2021 MBP 16” Big Sur 11.4 and iPhone 12 iOS 15.1.1, I resorted to Finder syncing which fails.

I formerly used iTunes 12.6.3 to manage Apps, Books, Music and sync Contacts and Calendars on my devices synced with my 2013 MacBook Pro 15” but support for that version of iTunes was withdrawn.
